Anonymous, Fountain Valley Estates
I moved to Fountain Valley Estates for my kids’ schooling, and to live in a one-story house for my spouse who was wheelchair bound. I love Fountain Valley Estates. It’s a very close-knit community. I volunteer a lot in the city, and I want to stay.
When we moved in, rent was $1700. Now, rent is $2395. After covering housing expenses, I don’t have much left each month. My spouse passed away in 2017, and I now live off one income. I’ve had to find roommates to cover housing costs.
Rent increases are extremely stressful for myself and my roommates. With rent stabilization, I would be able to stay in my home, and I’d be able to focus on improvements needed in my home. With everything being so expensive, we need a cap on rent increases. I’m grateful I can live in my community, but I’m not sure how much longer I can stay.
